Magnifiers

Low Tech

Magnifiers can enlarge print and are often used by students. They should be prescribed by an optometrist who specializes in evaluating students with low vision.  There are many different types magnifiers with various strengths and different characteristics.  Examples are dome magnifiers, stand magnifiers, and hand-held magnifiers.The following are companies who specialize in manufacturing these products.

High Tech

For students who have significant low vision and benefit from stand up closed caption tv’s, hand-held video magnifiers can provide a portable option. These are typically prescribed by an optometrist who specializes in low vision and provides a clinical low vision evaluation.  The Ky. School for the Blind hosts such clinics each year across the state and they are free of charge.  Below are examples of various types of these magnifiers.
