In its "heyday" the Alpha Smart series of word processors were the "go to" assistive device for students that needed keyboarding over handwriting.  AlphaSmart were the definition of portable word processors.

 

With the advent of smaller, lighter, and more cost effective alternatives, the AlphaSmart has become an archaic device of the past.

If a student requires  portable keyboarding for writing, most schools offer Chrome Books or an iOS system with a bluetooth keyboard.
